Siwa Rock Salt
Siwa salt in Egypt’s Siwa Oasis: nine salt lakes, 55,000 acres, 6 million tons of rock salt. Highly pure, used for snow melting. Environmentally friendly, efficient in de-icing.
About Our Salt
Siwa salt in Egypt is found in the Siwa Oasis, comprising nine salt lakes with a total area of 55,000 acres and a depth of 55 meters below the surface. These lakes hold approximately 6 million tons of rock salt. The salinity in these lakes is five times higher than that of the sea.
Siwa salt is renowned as one of the purest and highest quality forms of rock salt globally. It is widely used in the process of snow melting. Egypt’s annual production of Siwa rock salt reaches around 5 million tons. The production includes various types such as raw Siwa salt and industrial salt.
Raw Siwa salt is present in the upper layer and contains additional substances like magnesium and calcium chloride. These materials can be utilized for snow melting or in petrochemical industries.
Raw Siwa salt is commonly employed in de-icing operations due to its high saltiness, ranging from 98.5% to 99.8%. In comparison, sea salt typically has a saltiness level of 95%, with a moisture content not exceeding 1%, as opposed to 5% in sea salt. This makes Siwa salt highly efficient in snow melting applications in Europe and America, requiring only 4 tons per kilometer of roads, instead of the usual 9 tons.
Furthermore, Siwa salt is known for being environmentally friendly, ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem.
